On Monday April 15th, 2019 Dominatrixes Against Donald Trump (DAD) and The Sex Workers Outreach Project, Sacramento (SWOPSAC) held a SESTA/FOSTA Die-In Protest at the California State Capitol. Our “Die In” was a visual demonstration of the harm and devastation SESTA / FOSTA has had, and continues to have, on the Sex Worker Community. It has driven us back underground, onto the streets, to the pre-Internet days when prostitutes worked outdoors, scantily clad in all weather, on “Strolls” where they were routinely picked off by serial killers and victimized by every kind of predator.
The Die-In was led by activists and Presidential candidate Tara Indiana, the event featured artists, sex workers, entertainers and sex educators including Monique Powell of Save Ferris, Jack Grisham of TSOL, Sex Educator and artist Soma Snakeoil, activist and artist Shannon Knox, and members of SWOP Sacramento, as well as other members of the pro-dom community, medical field and other allies.
On April 15th, we came together in unity to have our voices heard and to call out those who made 2018 one of our deadliest years in sex worker history by voting for SESTA/FOSTA.
